                                                       Internet Product Review 2009

A Great Gift Upon Becoming a Citizen

"My dearest friend Carlos will be sworn in as a new citizen here in San Antonio next month. He had all the requirements for us citizenship and then passed the exam. So I wanted to get him a gift for this most important of important days for him, but was not sure what to get. He already has a flag that he hangs in front of his home. I thought of everything; a slice of apple pie (ha ha), tickets to a baseball game, a bronzed statue of liberty, a copy of the Constitution, but instead .I opted to buy him a piece of America. It is such a significant day to be sworn in - I want to make sure he will never forget it. "

Naturalization

A person who was not born a U.S. citizen may acquire U.S. citizenship through a process known as naturalization. Person must be at least eighteen years old and for 4 years and 9 months must be a permanent resident of the United States or 2 years, 9 months if they (a) acquired legal permanent resident status, (b) are married to and living with a citizen for the past 36 months and (c) the husband/wife has been a U.S. citizen for at least 36 months prior to the applicant applying for naturalization.

They must be a "person of good moral character", and must pass a test on United States history and government. Most applicants must also be conversant in the English.

What does it mean to be an American citizen?  To many who were not born in the United States, American citizenship is the ultimate freedom…the best possible status in the world. On becoming an American citizen, a person has all the same rights as all natural born American citizens. Some of the rules on how to become an American citizen are mentioned above.

Honor Someone on Citizenship Day

"The #1 Best Selling Gift

for New American Citizens"

The New Citizen Award

Every year around July 4th, Carnegie Corporation of New York, in partnership with The New York Times, salutes our founder's legacy, by celebrating an ideal he held so dearly: citizenship.

On this day, we honor women and men whose love for this country, like that of Mr. Carnegie himself, led them to pursue a pathway to citizenship.  It is a pathway that may be both lengthy and complex, but for many immigrants, the process is a road they are determined to follow.

Like their fellow citizens, those men and women who have become Americans by Choice, have made, and continue to make, our nation strong and vibrant. We are committed to helping immigrants become integrated into the civic fabric of our nation because enlightened citizenship is the everlasting strength of our democracy. Our national motto, E pluribus unum— “out of many, one” — continues to be an ideal we can all aspire to and a true guiding light for our nation.

The United States of America remains a land of immigrants.
Andrew Carnegie, who founded Carnegie Corporation
of New York in 1911, was an immigrant from Scotland.
We at Carnegie Corporation salute his legacy, along with
the contributions of the millions of other immigrants who
have made, and continue to make, our nation strong and
vibrant. We are committed to helping immigrants become
integrated into the civic fabric of our nation because
enlightened citizenship is the everlasting strength of our
democracy. Our national motto, E pluribus unum —
“out of many, one” — continues to be an ideal we can all

fuerte y vibrante a nuestra nación. Estamos comprometidos
